Brief: NFL announces suspensions for bounty program

Following the one-year suspension of Saints Head Coach Sean Payton, punishment for players has been announced. Scott Fujita, Anthony Hargrove, Will Smith and Jonathan Vilma were informed that they had been suspended without pay for their roles in the bounty program. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell suspended current Saints players Jonathan Vilma for the 2012 NFL season and Will Smith for the first four games of the 2012 NFL season. The three- year bounty program that awarded players for hard hits on opposing teams has been followed by a slew of punishments and media accusations amongst the NFL. With the NFL draft already over, Saints fans can only cross their fingers and hope that the players’ appeal is successful in lessening the suspensions handed out on Wednesday.
