2012 recipient of the Dux Academicus award Patricia Dorn, Ph.D., recently published new research in The American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene. Her research highlights methods that are vital to stopping the spread of Chagas disease. Her research explores the prevention of the parasite-carrying bugs from living and infecting people in their homes, where the bugs often feed on victims’ faces at night. When the techniques prescribed by Dorn were used, the rate the bugs fed on human victims decreased from 38 percent to three percent.
