The Loyola Alumni Association is hosting the 10th Annual National Community Service day on Nov. 6.
This day is important to David Robinson-Morris, associate director of Alumni Relations, and others because this event not only marks the first decade of a day dedicated to community service, but also this year, New Orleans will be participating in 12 projects around the city, twice as many projects as Wolves on the Prowl 2009.
Those projects include service at Chateau de Notre Dame, Odyssey House and Bridge House.
The National Day of Community Service will span across seventeen cities, ranging from Washington to Tampa, Fla.
“Each city is doing their own thing, from gardening to [working in] nursing homes,” Robinson-Morris said.
Robinson-Morris also said that Wolves on the Prowl began as a Student Government Association initiative to urge students to become “men and women for others.”
Loyola’s student organizations are expected to come out in full force because of the number of projects going on. One project will be held on campus for The Good Shepard School.
The Good Shepard School is a private school for under-privileged children, where their parents do community service, in lieu of paying tuition.
“There are needs in your backyard,” Robinson-Morris said. Needs that will try to be met as Loyola students volunteer their time for others, he said.
Kelsi Allenbach, mass communication freshman, plans on volunteering her time, hopingand hopes to make a difference in someone’s life.
“[Alpha Chi Omega] sorority’s philanthropy is supporting domestic violence victims and in working with Wolves on the Prowl, I hope to gain a deeper connection with this philanthropy as this will be the first hands-on event with battered women.” Allenbach said.
Robinson-Morris said that this year’s Wolves on the Prowl is a way for the world to see that, “This is who we are, and this is what we do.”
After the Wolves on the Prowl community service, there will be an after party held at The Fly.
Future events hosted by the Loyola Alumni Association within the coming week will consist of Memorial Mass and a wine and cheese event.
