“The Stupid Time Machine,” an improvisation and sketch comedy group, will perform on Nov. 8 at 9 p.m. in Satchmo’s. The group’s performance at Loyola University New Orleans will be held as a fundraiser for the Ignacio volunteer program, which takes students to Jamaica and Belize during winter and summer breaks,” said Andrew Ryan, Jesuit Fellow.
“This particular show is going to benefit the Jamaica Christmas Camp coming up in December,” Ryan said. “The group will donate 60 percent of their profits to the Ignacio Volunteer Program.”
“The performance is an innovative way to raise money and give back,” said Kristy Jacobs, business manager for The Stupid Time Machine Group and former Loyola alumni.
“We are a very service-minded group and it made sense for us to do a fundraiser for the Ignacio Volunteer Program,” Jacobs said. “Normally, we receive 60 percent in profits and the venue receives 40 percent, but we flopped it this time. We would like to do more fundraisers in the future.”
The show will be purely improvisational and largely contingent on the feeling of the audience.
“We take a suggestion from the audience and perform an hour long show,” said Derrick Dupuy, criminal justice junior a performer in the group. “Our sketch comedy is in the mold of pop culture and different senses of humor.”
The group relies on teamwork to produce a show. “The key to a successful performance is trusting that partners will come through and support each other,” said Scott Porot, a Jesuit Center Fellow who takes comedy classes from the improvisation group.
The four male and two female improvisers perform every Tuesday at The Factory, on 8314 Oak St.
“This is an opportunity to get some really talented people out on campus, to not only guarantee a great evening for people, but also to support a great cause,” Porot said. “It shows how Loyola can make the world a more just and equitable place.”
Tickets cost $4 in advance and $5 at the door.
