Next Tuesday is fast approaching and you know what that means- new DVD releases. Well, if you want advice on what you should absolutely buy, what you should rent once and what you should stay away from, check out this guide on what’s hot and what’s not.
The good: What to buy. “The Forbidden Kingdom”
This movie is a throwback to the cheesy kung-fu flicks of years past with its flying wirework and mythical story. It stars Jackie Chan and Jet Li as martial arts masters who train a young American boy to fight for the freedom of their oppressed kingdom. The action sequences are fun as long as you don’t take the film too seriously.
The bad: Rent worthy.”Baby Mama”
“Baby Mama” is undoubtedly a funny movie, but it does have many flaws. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler star in this film of conception gone awry. Fey’s organized character contracts Poehler’s mess of a person to have her baby, and the resulting feud provides many laughs, but leaves you with an empty comedy. “Baby Mama” would make a good rental but nothing more.
The ugly: Waste of money.”The Fall”
Contrary to the label, “The Fall” is a gorgeous movie that uses color and imagery in a way that few films do, but this is where the goodness stops. The Fall is another movie from the mind of Tarsem Singh, and much like his last picture, “The Cell,” it is a visually awe-inspiring experience that leaves the viewer asking for more substance in terms of story telling.
