Speculation regarding who will address Loyola’s class of 2011 finally comes to an end with Loyola’s announcement of award-winning actor Wendell Pierce as its 2011 commencement speaker for Saturday, May 14.
Pierce, a reccurring actor on HBO’s drama series “Treme,” is a New Orleans native and has appeared in several films and television sitcoms throughout his career.
His resume’ includes appearances on Spike Lee’s documentary “When the Levees Broke,” “Ray,” “The Wire” and “Fighting Temptations.”
He joins New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu, who is scheduled to deliver the College of Law’s commencement address later that day.
Landrieu attended Catholic University before earning his law degree from Loyola in 1985.
He practiced law for 15 years, and became an expert mediator in alternative dispute resolution, according to a Loyola press release.
