Richard Hinton Named New Assistant Basketball Coach
Head coach Michael Giorlando announced the hiring of assistant coach Richard Hinton for the men’s basketball team.
Hinton is an experienced coach and the ‘Pack is confident he will help the team move forward. His latest coaching experience came while he was the assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Southern University at Shreveport.
Hinto has also worked at Hill College in Texas as an assistant basketball coach and recruiting coordinator as well Shores Christian Academy in Ocala, Fla.
The men’s basketball team finished the season with a 16-13 record and was 9-9 in Conference play.
Brian Mason Signs with Reno Silver Sox
Former Loyola baseball player, Brian Mason, signed with the Reno Silver Sox on Aug. 15. The team is part of the Golden Baseball League.
During his years playing for the ‘Pack, Mason racked up 240 hits. He ended his college career with a season-high .417 batting average, four home runs, 44 RBI and 10 stolen bases.
In school history, Mason holds the second highest career batting average (.345) and runs scored (150), and is fifth in RBI (114). He also holds the second spot in Loyola’s single season batting average (.417).
Lady Wolfpack’s Basketball Team Adds Two New Coaches
Newly hired basketball coach Kellie Kennedy hired Jamie Thomatis and Fran Boffone as assistant coaches for the women’s team.
Thomatis joins Loyola after spending three years coaching at the high school level at Ursuline Academy. In the 2007-2008 season she coached middle school. Thomatis has also been an assistant coach of the Kenner Angels, a member of the Amateur Athletic Union for five seasons.
Boffone joins Loyola after spending five years at Dominican High School, where she was the head softball coach from 2005-2008 and assistant basketball coach from 2003-2007.
Loyola Men’s Basketball Best in NAIA Academically, All Athletic Teams Honored
Loyola athletes continue to shine in the classroom as well as the court. The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) honored the school’s sports teams for having the highest GPAs.
The men’s basketball team took the top spot with a 3.43 GPA. The team also performed well on the court achieving a winning season for the first time since the 1994-1995 season, going 16-13.
The men’s baseball team’s GPA ranked 15th in the NAIA with a 3.05. The team, however, didn’t have much success on the field going 18-33 in Coach Cassard’s first year with the team.
Loyola’s volleyball team ranked 30th with a GPA of 3.36. On the court, they won the GCAC Championship and qualified for the regional tournament.
The women’s basketball team had a 3.28 GPA and reached the Final Eight for the first time in school history.
The men’s and women’s cross country team finished with GPA’s of 3.36 and 3.32, respectively.
