The Benjy Davis project encourages listeners to live for today in their newly released album.
With their new album Dust, the Benjy Davis Project brings a mix of John Mayer, Better than Ezra and North Mississippi All-Stars to the New Orleans music scene. The six member project, featuring lead vocalist Benjy Davis, hails from Baton Rouge, La. and win the hearts of music lovers.
In 2001 the band began as a folk-rock duo, but then expanded to a group as a six-piece group after the release of three albums prior to “Dust,” according to Krista Mettler, director of publicity for Rock Ridge Music.
“Dust” contains sounds and lyrics that embrace a mixture of soul, rock, country, Christian and blues. Students can relate to the theme of this album because the lyrics focus on accomplishing tasks and projects. The band motivates its listeners to never give up and to perform to achieve.
Lyrics on the album will inspire students to live for today and never look down on themselves.
The song “Tell Myself” offers students these lyrics: “To tell myself that life is a race and love is a game/and I’ll tell myself I’ll be young forever and nothing will change.”
Other lyrics from the album like that from the song “The Rain” describe this as well, saying that life is like the weather in that it is unpredictable.
“Some days go on forever/Sometimes the weatherman says rain/ We’ve all had days staring blankly out the window, watching all the plans we made go down the drain,” said the song.
With songs like these, the Benjy Davis Project shows that life is governed by an unpredictable race, inspiring students to live for today and not take things for granted.
