Loyola is a constant haven for music all around its historic campus. Take a peek at these rising stars within its own galaxy.
Perry Spadoni, graphic design junior, Chaz Simms, accounting freshman and Troy Baham, an English junior at Xavier University, are known as the Dark Side Yakuza Republic.
“Dark Side is a reference to our first name, which was Darksyde, and Yakuza is the Japanese mafia because we admire Eastern history and philosophy,” Spadoni said. “And Republic because we are a fairly large collective.”
This rapping threesome is known for having quite the mouthful onstage and a witty and outgoing personality off it.”I’ve been rapping since I was about 12,” Spadoni said. “For me it’s been since I was like 14,” Simms said. Both mentioned that their interests in rapping for an actual audience started around high school.
At Loyola, they met through a mutual friend, and even though they haven’t had a performance yet, the group said they are optimistic for the future. They have filmed a show for a public access program called “The Spotlight” that will air this Friday Oct. 31.
“We’re really excited,” Spadoni said before saying that he wanted to leave the readers with some words of wisdom: “Never forget your words.”
