Ice cream shop will open up in the fall

The first floor of Carrollton hall may be the new hang out spot for students when Carmello Turello opens up an ice cream shop called La Divina this fall.

Originally, a pizza venue called Mellow Mushroom, was set to open in the vacant spot in Carrollton; however, a deal between the pizza parlor and Loyola Dining Services could not be reached, leaving the space vacant.

Turello, owner of La Divina, said the shop would stay open until 11 p.m. or later, depending on what students want.

“I am so excited because I live on campus and it is so hard when I have a sweet tooth and everything else is closed by like 9 or 10 o’clock at night,” Cynthia Ramirez said, general studies history freshman.

In addition, students are looking forward to finding out the menu options and if wolf bucks will be accepted.

Arisa Banks, communication junior said, “I didn’t even know they were opening that. Oh man, I hope they let us use our wolf bucks.”

La Divina will offer several specialty items, including vegetarian items, a variety of vegan friendly sorbets, and many gluten free gelatos.

“I’m diabetic, but I love gelato, so if they have sugar free stuff I’m there,” John Paz, music industrie business sophomore, said.

La Divina may also be a potential employer to students on campus, as Turello is open to having student workers in the shop. Students would be paid in the same manner as students who work at CC’s.

According to Turello, La Divina is not trying to compete with CC’s. The prime focus of the new dining option is to stay open late for students.
