Loyola community came together for the Mass of the Holy Spirit

Hundreds congregated at the Holy Name of Jesus Church on September 10 to celebrate the beginning of the new academic year.

The gathering was for the Mass of the Holy Spirit. The event featured live symphony, choir performances dance recitals, and the symbolic raising of 200 yards of bright red fabric from behind the crucifix, which represents the Holy Spirit.

The Rev. Kevin W. Wildes, S.J., university president served as the event’s principal celebrant. The Rev. Fr. Ronald Mercier, S.J. the Provincial of the Central and Southern Province of the Jesuits, preached at the event.

Representatives from various Jesuit apostolates and schools in the New Orleans area were also in attendance.
