The NCAA’s president, Mark Emmert, has been given a three year contract extension through Oct. of 2020.
Despite pressure from lawsuits filed against the association, the NCAA board approved the extension during a convention last month in San Antonio where the vote included an option for an additional year.
In a statement by Kirk Schulz, Kansas State president and board chairman, he said that Emmert was, “integral in leading the association forward as we navigate through the complex and challenging ways ahead, while better supporting student-athletes.”
Emmert has been leading the NCAA since 2010 and his tenure has been marked by dramatic changes in the way the NCAA conducts business.
