The history of the sports complex

The University Sports Complex was not always how it is now. It’s less than 40 years old and used to be called by a different name.

The fieldhouse was called the recreation center until the school removed intramural sports in the mid-eighties. However, students voted to have intramural athletics return.

The student government association created a referendum to get the funding for the new building. The Board of Trustees unanimously voted yes.

They raised the money to build it, so it was torn down in 1986 to create the new building. It opened in January
