    UNO student strangled in dorm

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office ruled the death of a University of New Orleans student a homicide Wednesday.

After an autopsy, the student was found to be strangled. No foul play is suspected, police told The Times-Picayune.

New Orleans Police found the decomposed body Monday evening after some Bienville Hall students reported a foul smell throughout the building, the UNO Driftwood reported.

The name of the victim has not been released. According to the NOPD, the victim is believed to be a 42-year-old graduate student. He did not have any roommates, police said.

Sergeant Jeff Johnson told Driftwood the body is believed to have been in the room for five to seven days before being discovered. Students who lived near the room where the student was found have been relocated to various parts of the dorm building, UNO officials said.
