To the editors:
I completely disagree with Ari Silber’s review of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I.” The movie does not rely on previous devotion to the series in the slightest. I know this for a fact because I watched the movie with a friend who had not seen the other films and he thoroughly enjoyed the film.
In the series, the seventh book is very different from the previous six. It is far more dramatic and dark. Also, it should be kept in mind that this movie covered only half of the seventh book. If you have ever read the book, which, based on Silber’s statements, I question whether or not he has, you would know the vast majority of this book is not very action-packed; however, it is still amazing.
As for his comments on the movie being dark and having a “melancholic gloom,” the same thing applies. This entire book is written like that. J. K. Rowling wrote it like that intentionally, so having the movie be any different would be a horrendous error on the part of the director and writers.
I would also like to point out how he says the film does not provide closure. How could it possibly provide any true closure when it is only half of the story? I mean, really, did you even have to ask that? I honestly wonder if he has read the book because, as an avid fan of this book and the entire Harry Potter series, I thoroughly enjoyed the film and believe that the director and writers did an outstanding job at portraying the first half of the book.
