Sometimes, especially for freshmen, constantly eating on campus can get to be as monotonous as going to that boring accounting class every other day.
If you’re getting stuck in a food rut, there are more options right next door at Tulane.
The University Center is a Mecca for fast food needs within a Loyola student’s walking distance.
You can get sushi and Pizza Hut personal pizzas on your Wolfbucks in the C-Store, but the U.C. can be a haven if you’re craving Taco Bell, Chick-Fil-A or Subway.
If you’re feeling pretentious (and what Tulane student isn’t?), try the quality cuisine of Le Gourmet. Located across from Bruff Commons on McAlister Drive, Le Gourmet offers trendy, overpriced bottled water like Ty Nant from Wales (in a cool dimpled bottle) and electrolyte-enhanced Smart Water.
Servings of ready-made entrees such as flank steak, calzones, buffalo chicken and crawfish remoloude will bring you back to that fancy dinner that your parents bought when they came to visit.
At the bottom of Bruff Commons (don’t actually try their cafeteria. Rumor is that it’s worse than the O.R.) is Bruff Market and Deli.
Though the market doesn’t boast anything the C-Store lacks, the Deli can be a welcome change from sandwiches in the Underground and the O.R.
Careful, though; you may have to wade through construction paraphernalia to get to it, and once you’re inside, the often-pungent smell might be too much to handle.
But exciting toppings for your sandwiches such as bacon make it worth the perils of actually being there.
When the coffee from the Underground just isn’t going to get you through your day or night, Tulane boasts not one, but two java locations.
A mini PJ’s is tucked away in Pocket Park for the busy student on the go.
You might remember the second PJ’s location (right across Willow St.) as the former Rue de la Course.
This is the prime location to head to if you want to enjoy a slow cup of roast to study with.
The traditional assortment of frozen, blended, and hot coffee, espresso and selection of extras such as syrups won’t let your taste buds down.
Yummy baked goods such as muffins, cheesecake and carrot cake also are available to fuel you on those late night study sessions.
Best of all, the inside actually smells like a coffeehouse, and there’s plenty of room to study.
PJ’s is so popular and convenient that it can get loud, and you may occasionally have to fight for a good table inside.
It is often more economical and quick to grab a sandwich in the O.R. for lunch or have a loaded baked potato from the Underground for dinner, but if you just have to get away, Tulane provides an easy alternative.
