The Lady Wolfpack held on to win 68-64 against Texas Wesleyan Saturday afternoon in The Den.
Psychology sophomore Trenell Smith led all scorers with sixteen points and went six-for-six from the behind the foul line.
The ‘Pack had a 14-point lead at the half but fought through a scoring slump in the second half to stay ahead of the Wesleyan Lady Rams.
The ‘Pack was outscored 32 to 18 by the 3:00 minute mark as Texas Wesleyan rammed their way to tie the game at 60.
The Wolfpack reassessed their game plan and according to team captain Kiely Schork (mass communication senior),”The key for us to win the game was to stay focused and maintain the intensity we had in the first half.”
While both teams had 21 turnovers for the game, the Wolfpack capitalized on their speed to dribble penetrate in the last minutes and draw quick fouls to edge them out over the Rams.
With only a two-point lead and eight seconds left in the game, Schork was sent to the line and hit both free throws to conclude the game at 68-64.
The Wolfpack is now 2-3 and will face Tulane University on Tuesday.
