After an exciting home opening win on Aug. 25, the Loyola women’s volleyball team went winless this weekend at the Belhaven Tournament in Jackson, Miss.

The Wolfpack dropped the first match 3-2 Friday evening to Bethany College.

Accounting senior Mary Seals had 15 kills and Sara Terrebonne, biology senior, had 10kills and seven blocks. According to head coach Tommy Harold, the team played the first set well; however, Bethany’s team adjusted and stepped up their game.

“It took us until the fourth set to respond and make some adjustments ourselves,” Harold said.

The Wolfpack also dropped the second match, 3-0, the same evening to Evangel University. Seals had 14 kills while mass communication senior, Danielle Posey, had 12 kills and seven blocks. According to Harold, the team improved their play from earlier Friday but was still unable translate that into a win over Evangel’s team.

The Wolfpack dropped on Saturday, which they lost 1-3 against Union College.

“I thought that this would be a good match up for us but we were not able to eliminate enough unforced errors and this cost us over the course of the match,” Harold said. The Wolfpack fell short of itsexpectations when it came to using the techniques they had been working on during the preseason against some tough teams.

Harold added that he would like to see the team continue to improve both individually and as a unit as they work towards meeting standards that got them a berth to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics regional tournament last year and also helped them to a 22-11 record.

“We know that if we are able to protect the ball and stay aggressive, we can be successful,” he said.

According to Harold, the goal of the team now is to take their high level of play and extend it for a long period of time.

Corrections: In a story last week, the Loyola Wolfpack volleyball team’s record was misidentified as 21-11. Their record was 22-11.

Also, Mary Seals’ 15 kills weren’t a career high for her.
