I hope you’re sitting down for this. I’m not sure anyone is prepared for what I am about to tell you.
Loyola athletics still has an undefeated team. I know, shocking.
It’s the men’s club lacrosse team. To those of you shaking your heads in disbelief saying, “Wait, we have a club lax team?” The answer is yes, we do. We have for a few years now.
And no, I wasn’t lying. They are undefeated. Two wins and zero losses, baby. I know what you’re thinking. Big deal, they won two games. All I’m talking about is that big fat zero in the loss column. The last time I checked, that makes us undefeated.
In fact, when I originally convinced The Maroon to allow me to write this article, we were supposed to have a doubleheader out in Lafayette. By supposed to, I mean they canceled on us last minute.
It must have been because they heard we’re undefeated.
Back to those two wins. Seeing as I am the official “stat girl” of the team, I’ve got you covered. The first game is old news; it was way long ago … though I will fill you in on what went down at the last one.
Loyola started off the game strong and dominated the field for the first quarter. Due to a few man-down goals, the New Orleans Men’s Lacrosse Club brought us into halftime with the score tied at 5.
Tied 7-7 after the third quarter, Loyola decided it was time to turn it up a notch.
Loyola not only scored five goals in the fourth, but goalie Anthony LaRocca, accounting junior, held up his end of the deal by shutting out New Orleans.
The studs of the game were the freshman tag team of Josh Dulaney, general business, and Jay O’Connor – who scored four and three goals respectively.
The bottom line is club sports are meant to be fun; the club lacrosse team has that idea down. And everyone knows its always more fun to win … another idea the men’s club lacrosse team has down.
So start rooting them on and coming out to the games. A game against our cross-street rivals Tulane is in the works. If there’s one game you cannot miss, it’s that one.
