Kellie Kennedy, head women’s basketball coach, has another medal to add to her trophy case as the 2013-2014 women’s basketball season comes to a close.
Kennedy was awarded Southern States Athletic Conference’s Women’s Coach of the Year. She steered the team to the women’s West Division regular season championship appearance, netted her 100th win with the team and finished the season with a 20-10 record.
Kennedy said she believes the Wolf Pack will decide its season’s outcome.
“We are in control of our destiny,” Kennedy said.
Kennedy said she hopes to have been able to influence the team with the standards and values she sets for the players.
“I hope in a very positive way,” Kennedy said.
Jasmine Brewer, psychology senior, said Kennedy has pushed her during her basketball career.
“She does not let up,” Brewer said.
Kennedy said Brewer is a leader and a positive asset to the women’s basketball team.
“The greatest leader you could ask for,” Kennedy said. “She epitomizes what we’re trying to do here at Loyola.”
Janeicia Neely, mass communication junior, said Kennedy’s expectations have affected her on and off the court.
“She expects a lot from us and encourages us to work as hard as we can, so we can reach our potential,” Neely said.
Kennedy said her position can be described as “rewarding and competitive.”
“I love what I do,” Kennedy said.
