Off-campus obscenities reported
A second off-campus obscenity has been reported by the Tulane Police Department. On Jan. 29, a white male exposed his genitals to a student walking on Magnolia Street near Sharp Hall Gate. The incident took place at 8:15 a.m. The suspect was reported to be approximately 5’7,” 130 lbs. and had brown hair. He was wearing a red plaid shirt and jeans. This is the second such incident this month, with the first occurring on Jan. 12. Both Tulane and Loyola Police Departments have posted crime prevention tips in response to the obscenities. The tips suggested include to “Quickly walk away from an individual exposing his genitals” and not to travel after dark alone.
Wildes elected chairman
The Rev. Kevin Wildes, S.J., university president, was elected chairman of the Ethics Review Board for the City of New Orleans. The board will submit recommendations for the Code of Ethics and supervise the appointment of an Inspector General. Members of the board will also publicize rules about the implementation and interpretation of the Code of Ethics.
The Maroon wins regional awards
The Maroon was recognized by the Southeast Journalism Conference in its 2007 “Best of the South” competition. The Maroon received five awards recognizing individual and group efforts. Catherine Cotton, mass communication sophomore, was awarded fourth place for best newspaper page layout. Coleen O’Lear, mass communication senior, was awarded third place for best editorial writer. Fourth place in best special event reporter was shared by Jared Bailey and Kelly Brown. Daniel Monteverde, mass communication junior, was awarded fourth place for best news graphic designer.
The Maroon placed fifth overall in the best college newspaper category.
