Loyola’s Residence Hall Association is holding a Sadie Hawkins dance in hopes of raising the committee’s campus presence and uniting Loyola’s residential community. The dance will be held on Feb. 18 and is open to all Loyola students.
One of the committee’s goals for this academic year was “to leave something lasting, something to become new tradition,” said Amy Boyle, associate director of Residential Life and Residence Hall Association advisor. “A Sadie Hawkins dance might just be that tradition.”
After being chartered for two years, “we’re trying to put ourselves out there,” said Brooke Hagler, music education sophomore and Residence Hall Association vice president.
The committee’s first big-budget event was a Halloween party in 2010.
“Our Halloween party wasn’t too big of an event. We learned to not schedule events on Halloween weekend and the weekend of Voodoo,” Hagler said.
Members of the committee said they are excited about the upcoming dance and are trying to make this event a success. Instead of relying on budget increases, there will be a focus on advertising and word-of-mouth promotion, Hagler said.
The committee is, “looking for a great turnout,” said John Valdespino, music industry junior and committee program and service chairman.
“People are ready to do this. This is the one thing missing from Loyola and you can tell.”
