Life sentence in Covington love triangle killing; judge: ‘stupid’

COVINGTON, La. (AP)-The judge told a man convicted of killing his lover’s husband that “stupid” and “senseless” were the only words he could think of to describe the murder.”You have made your own bed, and now you get to sleep in it, although it won’t be comfortable,” State District Judge Raymond Childress told Tommy D. Rowell Sr., who was convicted Oct. 25 of second-degree murder of his best friend, Thomas Talley.Rowell, 39, showed no emotion as Childress lectured him and formally sentenced him to the only possible sentence, life in prison without parole.Rowell and Kendra Talley, 27, who is awaiting trial on the same charge, were having an affair when Thomas Talley was killed early Dec. 11, 2004.While Rowell was driving Kendra Talley home after a night of drinking and drugs in the French Quarter, she allegedly told him that her husband had raped her.At the Talleys’ house, Rowell honked his horn to bring Talley outside. Talley was shot six times.Rowell, who described Talley as his best friend, admitted firing two shots from close range that hit Talley in the head.Defense attorney Buddy Spell said he will appeal the verdict, the sentence, and the judge’s rejection of a request to reduce the conviction to manslaughter.

Disappointing she got off light. Sordid and, as the judge said, “stupid”. Two best friends and one kills the other over an adulterous affair.
