Cissy Petty, associate provost and vice president for Student Affairs, sent a letter to Loyola students and faculty Oct. 31 in response to a complaint about defamatory graffiti scratched into a bathroom stall on the 3rd floor South in Biever Hall. In the letter, Petty says that while graffiti is considered by some to be a form of expression and art, university administrators have begun to investigate the incident.
The defaced bathroom stall features etchings of swastikas, the word “Jew” and other muddled writing, according to photographs in an anonymous tip sent to both Petty and The Maroon Oct. 30.
The “person or persons responsible will be held accountable for demonstration of their prejudice and ignorance,” Petty said in her letter. Petty is encouraging anyone with more information to e-mail her at [email protected].
