From 9 senators to 17, the Student Government Association Senate appoints new members to represent the student body.

The process to become a member of the Senate is to appear before the legislative body and present a speech. Current Senate members have the opportunity to vote to decide the fate of the candidate.

On Sept. 18, candidates were Alex Kneib, history junior, and Sydney Young, biology freshman, presented their interests in becoming senators for the College of Humanities and Natural Sciences. This vote was not taken until Sept. 25.

Along with a vote to appoint Kneib and Young, Mary Catherine Joiner, international business junior, Philip Kane, English writing sophomore, Cole LaFleur, music industry sophomore, and Nate Ryther, economics sophomore, were appointed as senators on Sept. 25.

On Oct. 2, Brendan Gallagher, economics junior, was appointed as a representative.

SGA entered the school year with zero representatives from the College of Humanities and Natural Sciences, that has 1,234 students, and the College of Business, that has 685 students, according to Loyola’s fact book report.

The College of Social Sciences, the largest undergraduate college, has

1,395 students, with three student representatives and the College of Music and Fine Arts has 682 students, according to Loyola’s fact book report.

Freshmen senators were elected to SGA on Sept. 6. in addition to the recently new elected senators.

“We’re just going to keep the applications open until we fill the

positions,” Corley said.
