Crime in the Uptown area continued this past week as four crimes were committed against Loyola students. Last Thursday at 2:18 a.m., on the 5500 block of South Robertson Street, two suspects armed with a gun approached two people as they entered a house. Police have identified Randy Lewis and an unnamed fifteen-year-old male as suspects in the case. The two men took the victims’ purses and vehicle. After the victims reported the crime, police officers located the car, apprehended the suspects, found the handgun and recovered the property.
Last Friday at 7:55 p.m., a Loyola student and her friend were leaving a drive-through ATM at Carrollton Avenue and Zimple Street when the suspect, dressed in all black with a black handkerchief tied around his face, walked in front of the victim’s car and put his hand on the hood. The victim sped up and drove away unharmed. That same day, between 10:15 p.m. and 10:45 p.m., three robberies occurred. Police believe the same person committed each crime. All crimes were committed without a gun in the second district: the 7900 block of Hampson Street, the intersection of Lowerline and Maple Streets and the 1700 block of Broadway Street. Last Monday, a Loyola student witnessed her neighbor’s car as it was burglarized in the 8000 block of Panola Street. More than $2000 worth of electronics were inside the car.
