This semester, the Student Government Association allocation process is going through a simple revision.
The budget packets that student organizations fill out to receive funds must now be typed. Also, these forms can be downloaded from the SGA Web site.
“There has been a timeline change for the pre-allocations process,” said SGA Vice President Adam Kohler, political science senior. “We used to begin pre-allocations on a Thursday; however, we moved it to a Wednesday to give student organizations more time to complete the packets.” Kohler believes this will make allocations more efficient and effective.
Allowing more time for the pre-allocation process should help student organizations eliminate more errors in their budget packets. SGA hopes the changes will help to make allocations fair to every organization on campus.
“We have made cuts to our general overhead costs,” SGA director of finance Jonathan Rowan, finance sophomore, said. “For example, we have shortened SGA’s office hours.”
Rowan said SGA’s long-term goals are to have the whole allocations process online. This is still being developed with the IT director.
During this allocation period, 65 percent of funds are going back to student organizations. This is the highest percentage ever in SGA history to go back to the students.
SGA will be allocating $65,000 to student organizations and $5,000 is for the post-allocation process.
SGA President Elliot Sanchez, philosophy senior, said, “This is one of our greatest contributions to the students.”
“We are very proud of this,” Kohler said.
