With Loyola students in mind, the Student Government Association implemented new programs in its budget this spring.
This semester’s total revenue is $142,300, with $18,300 for internal operations.
“I am proud because it is the least amount of the budget to ever go back to SGA for internal operations,” said SGA president Elliot Sanchez, philosophy senior.
“Everything in the budget is intentional because it is based on the things we value.”
This smaller budget was created with the intent that students will directly benefit from it.
“This is a student-centered budget, which has been one of our administration’s goals,” said SGA vice president Adam Kohler, political science senior.
“The best way to see this is the cutting down of our overhead costs and the new programs.”
SGA is spending $500 for recycling bins on campus to help promote the campus-wide recycling initiative.
“Recycling is something students have voiced to bring back to campus,” Kohler said.
$19,500 has been alotted for Loup Garou, a concert for Loyola students featuring major acts.
Sanchez hopes this will start a tradition for SGA administrations to put on a concert for the students.
Another new program is Lend-a-Brella, which has $1,200. Academic buildings on campus will have SGA umbrellas in umbrella stands.
Students can borrow an umbrella from one building and drop it off at another building on campus.
“Overall, I’m really happy to see the spring budget to directly affect the students,” said SGA director of finance Jonathan Rowan, finance sophomore.
