Six award-winning films are being shown through the weekend during the eighth annual New Orleans Jewish Film Festival, which began yesterday.
Saturday’s features include “Korby’s Girlfriend” and “Gloomy Sunday.” Winner of the best short film of the year, JSFS Annual Short Films Competition, 1994, “Korby’s Girlfriend” will be shown at 7:30 p.m. The film focuses on revenge as instructed by the Ten Commandments. “Gloomy Sunday” follows at 8 p.m. This German film features adult material consisting of adult themes and nudity while focusing on love, war and the aftermath of both.
Sunday features a screening of “A Good Uplift” at 1 p.m. and “Purim,” winner of Best International Feature Film New York 2002, at 4 p.m. “A Good Uplift” provides a lighthearted feel while depicting the work of a Jewish grandmother and shop owner while “Purim” depicts the internal conflict experienced by a reluctant suicide bomber and those his actions will affect.
The Annual Jewish Film Festival is presented by the Jewish Community Center, the Shir Chadash Conservative Congregation and Loyola University. All screenings will take place in Roussel Performance Hall in the Music/Communications Complex. Festival passes will cost $20, individual adult tickets $9 and college students, faculty, staff and seniors tickets $5.
