Loyola College of Law began its yearlong centennial celebration by holding an Alumni Luncheon on Friday, Jan. 31.

Maurice “Moon” Landrieu, former New Orleans mayor and College of Law alumni, was honored at the luncheon. Landrieu received the St. Ives Award, an annual award presented to alumni who have volunteered their services to the College of Law and have maintained the highest standards of the legal profession.

Landrieu fought to desegregate public facilities and city government during the 1970s. Landrieu has also served as councilman at large for the city of New Orleans, secretary of the Department of House and Urban Development in the cabinet of President Jimmy Carter, and as judge of the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeal for the state of Louisiana.

The Alumni Luncheon took place at the Ritz-Carlton New Orleans. Other events that will take place later this year to celebrate the College of Law include Mardi Law Celebration, the Law Alumni Association’s Centennial Cocktail Reception and a law reunion weekend.
