HOUMA, La. (AP) – Archbishop Shelton Fabre formally accepted the responsibility to guide the Archdiocese of Houma-Thibodaux’s 126,000 Catholics, on Wednesday, Oct. 30.
The diocese encompasses 39 Catholic churches and 13 Catholic schools. The 50-year-old Fabre replaces Bishop Sam Jacobs, who reached the Catholic Church’s mandatory retirement age of 75. Jacobs served as Houma-Thibodaux’s bishop for a decade.
