The Students in Free Enterprise team was named Regional Champions on Friday, March 23, in Nashville, Tenn., at the Opryland Convention Center.
The team will participate in a National Exposition in Dallas in May. They will be competing with 250 teams of region champions from around the country.
SIFE is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to educating citizens in the community about free enterprise. According to Loyola’s SIFE Web site, projects are based on four criteria: helping people understand the free market economy, promoting entrepreneurship in the community, teaching personal financial success skills and developing ethical business practices. The students teach free enterprise principles at elementary, middle and high schools and then prepare an annual report and presentation for the regional competition.
Dalene Jackson, international business junior, serves as SIFE president, and Chandra Schorg, assistant professor of accounting, is the faculty adviser.
Loyola has been participating in SIFE since 2002 and has won a trophy every year. This was the first time it was named regional champion. There are a total of five teams in Loyola’s league.
