When Loyola’s students return to school next fall, they will come back to a sight no one has seen for the past year: an intact Peace Quad.
This, and other deferred maintenance that has been ongoing through the year, should be completed by summer’s end, according to Ann Moss, assistant director of Physical Plant.
Some students have wondered how long the maintenance will take to finish.
“At the rate the work is going now, yeah, I’m worried that next semester it will still look the same,” said political science sophomore Ryan Kudelka. “The Peace Quad’s completely overdue.” Despite the Peace Quad’s completion, more maintenance work is on the way.
“Deferred maintenance is ongoing,” Moss said, “so repairs to the school will keep on happening.”
Not only has the Peace Quad gotten a facelift, but Marquette Hall, Monroe Hall and the Danna Center’s roofs have also been replaced. Physical Plant has also recoated and waterproofed Buddig Hall’s roof.
Additionally, on the Broadway Campus, Physical Plant has recoated Cabra Hall’s roof and has waterproofed St. Mary’s Hall’s exterior.
The summer has more work in store.
“The campus will still be going under maintenance work, if weather permits. But if there are showers, we will work. We have to get it done, and it will get done,” said Paul Fleming, assistant vice president for Administration.
Such summer projects include repairing the underground pipes in between the Recreational Complex and Buddig Hall, which will shut off some of Buddig’s water.
Physical Plant will also finish up the tie-in of the Peace Quad’s pipes. Physical Plant can only finish work on the Peace Quad during the summer because it will need to turn hot water off. With the hot water off, Monroe Hall, Bobet Hall, Marquette Hall, Thomas Hall and the Communication/Music Complex will be left without hot water, according to Moss.
