This may be the season to be jolly, but with finals quickly approaching, it is becoming more difficult for students to fully enjoy the upcoming holiday. But for a set of students, not only are they feeling the Christmas spirit, they are spreading it to everyone.
On Friday, Dec. 5, at 6 p.m. the Genesis Gospel Choir is sharing that spirit with everyone as they host their annual Christmas concert in Ignatius Chapel.
“I am very excited about the concert,” said Molly Thomas, Latin American studies major. “It’s not Christmas without gospel.”
The Genesis Gospel Choir is a group of students from different majors and backgrounds that all share a love for gospel music. Their sound can partially be accredited to the direction of music education sophomore, Nathan Joseph.
Joseph, who became choir director after the former director graduated, received the position when he was a freshman.
“I was interested in joining the choir but when I attended freshman orientation, I learned that there was no choir because there was no director.” Joseph said. “A friend of mine encouraged me to try for the position so I did, and I got it.”
Even though Joseph feels he has had success with the choir, he doesn’t consider his job done.
“My goal is to have the choir well known throughout the New Orleans area,” he said.
