Writer/director/editor/cinematographer/caterer (just kidding about that last one) Robert Rodriguez’s “El Mariachi Trilogy” (“El Mariachi”/”Desperado”/”Once Upon a Time in Mexico”) finally make it to Blu-ray with excellent transfers, the original bonus features and a fun self-editing option called “The Cutting Room” for the viewer. While the films vary in quality, they all share an impressive playful sense of action and Mexican pride.

The penultimate season of television’s longest-running medical drama series arrives on DVD with “ER: The Complete Fourteenth Season.” While the show still has some excitement and drama, it lacks the drive from previous seasons as well as insightful bonus features.

Those looking for a funny and gory romp through well-treaded territory need not look further than the 3-D Blu-ray release of “Piranha 3-D.” Director Alexandre Aja (“High Tension”) understands what his audience is looking for with a sleek, gruesome, nudity-filled horror-comedy that makes excellent use of 3-D technology. In addition, the disc contains a plethora of worthwhile bonus features, if the viewer is so inclined.
