Dear Editor,
(In response to Christopher Bournes’ Jan. 30 letter “Partisanship won’t change anything”) Mr. Bournes, if all you know about my classes (or those of my department colleagues) comes to you from rumors, then you are woefully ignorant. Some people go to great lengths to conceal their ignorance. You, on the other hand ….
Does “Your newly crowned king and god, President Barack Obama the Great” smack just a tad of “raging and ranting?” Or do only liberals do that?
I’m pleased you found the president’s inaugural address “hope-inspiring” and “positive.” Many others also saw it as a repudiation of every major George W. Bush administration policy disaster. Or should I have written “accomplishment?” You urge us (me included? I am over 60 — I might just get in the way) to “work together and get it done.” Perhaps your exhortation should be directed to the Republicans in the House, all of whom voted against the president’s stimulus package. That’s getting “it” done — they make lemmings look like nasty little slackers.
It has been said that “If you’re not a liberal at 20, you have no heart; if you’re not a liberal at 60, you have no head.” I think I know where your heart is. As long as you remain one of our political science students, I shall continue to hold out hope for your head.
Finally, there was no need to identify yourself as a sophomore. Anyone could readily infer that from all that you wrote.
Sincerely,
Philip Dynia
