The Loyola Law School is sponsoring a race to benefit Boys Hope Girls Hope of Greater New Orleans.
Race Judicata is a one-mile run/walk and 5 km race being held on Sat., March 9 in Audubon Park.
Kelley Allenspach, development director of Boys Hope Girls Hope of Greater New Orleans, is helping to lead the event.
“The race was founded as a way to engage our community of supporters both at Loyola and at firms across the city and have a morning of family friendly racing in support of Boys Hope Girls Hope,” Allenspach said.
The late Adrian Duplantier, judge and Loyola Law School alumnae, helped found Boys Hope Girls Hope. The program has two Mid-City homes that provide a stable home environment, mentoring and a high-quality education for academically motivated children in need.
“The event has had tremendous support from Loyola students and the local legal community, raising significant funds for the program every year,” Allenspach said.
Arlene Wiltz, Loyola Law School chaplain, is also helping with the event and is looking forward to attending.
“I enjoy seeing Loyola alumni who now serve on a Boys Hope Girls Hope committee or board, and those who have participated in this event since they were in law school, to support the wonderful program,” Wiltz said.
Participants of the race include Loyola Law students, faculty, staff, alumni, various attorneys and law firm staff members.
Maria Lopez, Loyola Law School dean, will serve as the honorary chair of the race.
“I am very honored and happy to serve as the chair this year. Father Wildes was the chair last year, so I am honored to follow his footsteps,” Lopez said.
The one-mile walk/run begins at 9 a.m. and the 5 km race begins at 10 a.m. Pre-registration for the race began Wed. March 6 in the Broadway Activities Center. Teams may not register the day of the race.
The race will feature local music groups and a costume contest for participants. Sponsors of the race, such as Whole Foods Market, will provide complimentary food and beverages.
“I think an event like this is a great way for students to get physical, get involved, and support a great cause, particularly founded by a Loyola alumnae, is excellent,” Lopez said.
