A Loyola student is recovering from brain surgery after being hit by a streetcar Friday night.
General studies freshman Nick Naugle suffered severe trauma to the head and is being treated at Charity Hospital.
According to Dean of University Ministry, the Rev. Eddie Gros, S.J., doctors performed emergency surgery to clear internal bleeding from his brain. Initial prognosis of the surgery was positive and Naugle regained consciousness the following day.
“He’s doing pretty well,” Gros said. “He’s recuperating quite well.”
Family and friends of the victim have flown in from Harrisburg, Penn.
“His caregivers are very happy with the progress,” Gros said in a campus letter sent out to all faculty and students.
The Maroon was unable to contact the parents for comment.
The night of the incident leaves more questions unsolved. Gros described it as “very sketchy,” and one person close to Naugle said he was alone at the time of the accident.
