School has begun and unfortunately, by this time many students are bored and looking for something to occupy their time.
That’s where I come in. From now until you’re packing your bags to return home, I will be dishing you the good, the not so good and the ugly of Wolfpack Athletics, the “inside scoop,” if you will. So far inside you would think you were working here.
First things first, let’s get some particulars out of the way for the freshmen, transfers and the upperclassman that just don’t have a clue. You can catch all of the Wolfpack action in the Den, located on the 5th floor of the Freret Street Parking Garage.
On most days it is known as the University Sports Complex, or the Rec. For those who have never been, there is only one entrance to the USC. All of the other doors are marked as exit only. Please save yourself the embarrassment of trying to open them. You will only draw laughter and awkward, unwanted attention to yourself.
Admission to games for students is free, so I expect all of you to be in attendance. Don’t know the schedules? No problem. All you have to do is log-on to www.wolfpack.loyno.edu.There. Now you have no excuse.
Look at it this way: going to a game is a much better way to procrastinate doing whatever it is you’re suppose to be doing. Besides, waiting for your Facebook friends list to update can get boring. Furthermore, showing school spirit and getting involved in activities helps pass the time, and, it makes the college experience that much better, or so I have been told.
So now that I’ve turned you all into eager, sports loving, Wolfpack fans, let’s talk volleyball. Please don’t confuse collegiate volleyball with the stuff your P.E. teacher used to make you do back in high school, the women who make up our team are fierce and not to be played with.
Needless to say, our women work hard, play hard and they win. They start serving it up in The Den at 7 p.m. on Sept. 22. The women will be taking on Belhaven College. I guarantee you won’t want to miss it.
But I’m not pushy, maybe volleyball’s not your thing. If that is the case then shame on you, but I’m not judging. There are plenty of other sports to get involved in. There’s men’s and women’s basketball, cross-country, baseball and the new edition to the department, women’s tennis.
Bottom line, college athletics is known for getting students interested and infused with school spirit, so don’t deny your Wolfpack pride. Corny, I know, but I need to get these 500 words out the way.
And I almost forgot: The mascots name is Havoc, not “Hey wolf!” Call him Hey wolf… he won’t respond. With that being said, Havoc and I will see you on Sept. 22, and remember, there’s only one entrance, Good Luck!
