Loyola printmaking exhibition to feature contemporary Louisiana artists’ works
The Collins C. Diboll Gallery will feature an exhibition focused on contemporary Louisiana artists who use the printmaking medium, showing examples of modern interpretations of printmaking and of the traditional techniques of the medium. Entitled “Louisiana in Print,” the exhibition will be on display from Jan. 27 to March 11. The gallery is located on the fourth floor of the Monroe Library. Thirty artists are involved in the exhibition.
Barbara Brainard, assistant professor at Loyola and a Tulane graduate, has taught drawing at the university since 1989. Her work has been featured in many collections, public and private, including exhibitions at Rutgers University and New Orleans Museum of Art.
Ron Bechet, one of the featured artists, is a New Orleans native and attended the University of New Orleans and Yale University. He serves as the chairman of the department of fine arts at Xavier University.
Another New Orleans native, Brandon Graving, has devised a unique monoprinting technique involving handmade inks that interact with light. He teaches at the Contemporary Artists Center in Massachusetts.
Others artists featured in the exhibition include Masahiro Arai, Raine Bedsole, Kimberly Arp, James Burke, Gerald Cannon, Cheryl Hayes, Brian Kelly, Teresa Cole, William Kitchens, Arthur Okazaki, Leslie Koptcho, Larry Schuh, Gerry Wubben, Allison Stewart, Mary Jane Parker, Jacqueline Bishop, John Scott and Laura Richens.
College of Music to perform Christmas concert Sunday, holiday reception to follow
The College of Music will present the annual Christmas at Loyola concert Sunday at 5 p.m. in Holy Name of Jesus Church. It will be a blending of classical Christmas music and treatments of popular Christmas songs. The concert will be completed with the performance of numerous Christmas carols, hymns and an audience sing-along. A reception sponsored by the Loyola Alumni Association will follow immediately after the concert.
The Loyola University Choirs, directed by Meg Hulley Frazier, will perform works by Dwight Gustafson, J.S. Bach, David MacIntyre, Frank Martin, Franz Biebl and Lara Hoggard. The Loyola Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Dean Angeles, is performing Anderson’s Suite of Carol for String Orchestra. Jeremy Brekke, trumpet instructor, will direct the Loyola Brass Ensemble.
