“Maddie Ruthless” performs at an Uptown house show Saturday Nov. 15, 2008.

For Maddie Flynn, music industry junior, and her band Maddie Ruthless and the Champagne Players, its about having fun while still putting on a good show. They want those who go to their shows to have a good time, dance a little, and enjoy the atmosphere.

The band got together close to a year ago, and they have been playing ever since.

The five members of the band are from all over the country in places raging from right here in New Orleans, to Florida, Texas, and Connecticut. Their music has been influenced by all their different cultures coming together.

“A lot of it was mixing folksy-roots music scene, and more ska-punk influences with traditional jazz influences,” Flynn said.

Their music has a lot of political references as well, and has messages of unity and togetherness.
“We want to spread a message of unity,” said Flynn. “The songs are about sticking together and working together in the community.”

Flynn says the band is not really looking to make it big, nationally or locally. She says they just want to enjoy what comes with being in a band.

“Success to me is playing a lot of awesome shows, or making a few tours. We aren’t trying to make it to MTV or anything, we just want to have a good time,” Flynn said.
