Allen A. Copping died on Dec. 1. Copping was the former head of the Department of Dental Anatomy in Loyola’s School of Dentistry from 1956 to 1970.
He studied dentistry at Loyola and graduated with a doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1949. Copping also served as associate dean and dean of the Louisiana State University School of Dentistry from 1971 to 1974. He was named chancellor of the LSU Medical Center in New Orleans in 1974. He was later appointed to lead the LSU System by the Board of Supervisors in 1985. He served as a LSU system president for 14 years.
