New Orleans (AP) — Mayor Mitch Landrieu said the 2012 Carnival season “rocked,” claiming it will prove to be one of the best seasons ever seen. He expects the estimated economic impact to exceed the $300 million of last year’s season. This year’s Carnival season was also safer; citywide crimes against persons were down nearly nine percent compared with 2011 Carnival. More guns were seized, and more arrests were made this year. NOPD also enforced the curfew more stringently in 2012. All information is from a city press release.
