Marina Meza, political science sophomore, staged a break-through performance in the Wolfpack’s final game of the season, a 2-0 win over Freed-Hardeman University of Henderson, Tenn.
The game, postponed on Oct. 10 due to inclement weather, was played in Clinton, Miss.
Meza assisted biology/pre-med freshman Lindsay Diak on a goal in the second half before winning the ball in the 89th minute and scoring to put the game away.
“That was fabulous,” Coach Emmy Therrell said.
“I felt like we should have won more games (earlier in the season),” second-year law student Christine Poist said. “We were very talented .”
Talent was not the problem. Injuries were the ‘Pack’s greatest foe this season
“It was difficult, because people were getting hurt left and right,” Poist said. “It takes away from people you practice against.”
“We really play well together,” Therrell said. “But three-forths of our starters struggled with injuries.”
Poist had one year of eligibility left after her first year of law school, so she rejoined the team this year.
“I thought this was the team’s best year (that I have played on),” Poist said.
Loyola finished 5-12-1.
“This season was a positive experience, because the players were dedicated,” Therrell said. “They sacrificed their time and really worked hard.”
