Wolfmail is Loyola’s new email system that combines Webmail and Squirrelmail into a more compact, navigable and savvy design.
“Wolfmail is easier to use because it has more options and control by the user,” said Joseph Locassio, director of Computer and Network Services. “It is also easier for us to manage it. It has a search function and a calendar that Webmail does not have.”
Wolfmail is also very efficient in managing the inbox and has upgraded the overall quality of Webmail, he said.
Students have responded positively to Wolfmail, including music industry sophomore Beau Autin.
“I started using Wolfmail when I saw it came out on my Facebook News Feed,” Autin said. “I like the way it’s organized and the more professional, shinier and larger interface.”
According to Autin, Wolfmail worked out the issues he had with transferring folders from Webmail to Squirrelmail and with Firefox not properly displaying the sidebar and folders on Webmail.
“I like the seamless interface that allows you to transfer all your folders from Webmail to Wolfmail,” he said.
“I had to switch from Webmail to Squirrelmail because I had an issue with my folders not appearing. I was unorganized, but Wolfmail remedied that and combined it into one and solved the problem.”
Wolfmail was decided as the name of the site and WolfPackId for the user ID to give the email system Loyola branding along with the maroon and gold colors, Locassio said.
There are still minor issues with the new email system, which is why it was introduced before the semester so that problems could be solved before classes begun, Locassio said.
“The calendar system is currently down in Wolfmail, but we are working on re-introducing it next month once we resolve some performance issues it had,” Locassio said.
“Most of the calls we had on Wolfmail were related to the address book, folder subscriptions and the fact that it is a new system.”
Locassio said Webmail would remain accessible until the end of the 2011 fall semester.
