Save the trees: Re-use the news

    Letter to the Editor

    Editor:

What a welcome surprise that we have free copies of the New York Times and USA Today available on campus.

This is a wonderful opportunity for the Loyola community. Professors from numerous disciplines are now requiring their students to read and report on the papers.

Delivered at 8:30 a.m., the papers are gone by 9:00 a.m.

What a shame that the newspapers are not available to those who are not “early birds.”

There is a solution, and it is befitting our institution.

Please consider reading your paper, then returning it to the newsstand for others to enjoy.

You will extend the life of each paper, allow others to read these newspapers, save a tree along the way, and ultimately conserve a bit of landfill space.
