    Garkeiva Council Joins Loyola Women’s Basketball Team

    Loyola women’s basketball coach, Kellie Kennedy, announced sociology freshman Garkeiva Council has joined the ‘Pack this season. At 5 feet 6 inches tall, Council will step into the line-up as a guard.Council graduated from Alief Hastings High School in Houston, where she lettered in basketball and volleyball.She was named All-District in both sports in 2008, when she set the single season assist record in basketball for her high school and was named Academic All District for three years in both sports. She was also named a Texas Scholar.

    Loyola Volleyball Opens GCAC Play With Win

    Loyola’s women’s volleyball team defeated Belhaven College 3-1 in what was the first Gulf Coast Athletic Conference game for both teams.Loyola won with scores of 25-18, 20-25, 25-9 and 25-10.Gina Gill, general studies freshman, led the ‘Pack with 20 kills. She also helped the team by scoring two blocks.Mary Seals, accounting senior, helped the ‘Pack by scoring 14 kills and scoring two blocks.Sarah Howard, marketing senior, ended the game with a match high 40 assists. She also had six aces and two blocks.The team’s next game is Monday, Sept. 22, at Dillard University.

    Loyola Volleyball Duo Named GCAC Players of the Week

    Keelyn Henderson, international business senior, and Sarah Howard, marketing senior, were named Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Players of the Week.Henderson scored 16 digs in the victory over Millsaps College, in an effort that earned her the honor of Libero of the Week. She had 36 assists and led the ‘Pack with five service aces and four total blocks. -Eduardo Gonzalez
