Next Tuesday is fast approaching and you know what that means – new DVD releases. Well, if you want advice on what you should absolutely buy, what you should rent once and what you should stay away from, check out this guide on what’s hot and what’s not.
“You Don’t Mess With the Zohan”
Israel’s top solider leaves the military to become a New York hairdresser, Zohan can be a laugh riot at times, while at others it is just out-right ridiculous. Pull up a chair, grab some hummus (watch the movie, and you’ll know what I’m talking about) and shut off your brain, and you might just find yourself laughing at Adam Sandler’s antics as Zohan.
The Bad: “Halloween”
Rob Zombie’s take on the first movie of the “Halloween” franchise has arrived just in time for it titular holiday. This remake of the 1978 classic is Zombie’s first mainstream movie release and a well made one it is. His impressive retelling of Michael Myers’ story adds much to the mythos that already exists after eight releases. This is not a great movie, but it is a perfect horror flick for a dark Halloween night.
The Ugly: “The Happening”
The worst part about M. Night Shyamalan’s “The Happening” is nothing happens, or at least that’s how one feels after sitting through this dismal affair. Shyamalan is back with a vengeance and, boy, does he want to torture his audience. It cannot be stressed how terrible and boring this attempt at horror is. There is one good thing about this film though: after an hour and a half of boredom, the credits are a beautiful sight.
