Though the basketball court gets most of the attention in the Rec Plex, the weight room is also receiving positive feedback from students.
According to political science sophomore Jonathan Rogers, his work out plan in the weight room is inspired by one of his favorite movies. “I’m doing the Fight Club work out,” Rogers said. “A three day routine of low weight with high repetition. I do that twice a week with an off day.”
Rogers said one of his favorite pieces was the rope machine saying, “They help sculpt your triceps area which is important for any Brad Pitt movie.” Rogers also said he enjoys using the free weights and that people working out are generally pretty nice about letting other people use the machines.
Though he didn’t have any major concerns about the weight room itself, Rogers suggested there should be some sort of instruction on how to lift weights properly. “The most important thing is form,” Rogers said. “If they just did a seminar every month and taught people how to do a work out and lift weights that would be helpful.” Rogers said the wrong technique could cause serious injury.
Though Loyola offers many instructor-led workouts in the Rec Plex, there is currently no instructor who works in the weight room.
Other than his suggestion that the gym play better music, overall, Rogers said, “It’s pretty solid. They have everything I need and they have all the yoga stuff, too.”
