Even though renovations are popping up around the Danna Center, the complete makeover is projected to take longer than originally expected. The project may be completed a year later than first anticipated, but work is rolling steadily on it.
New designs have sprouted up around the Danna Center and more changes are slated for the coming months.
A few days before spring break, many students could see the changes taking place both inside and outside the building. Recent changes include new mosaic tile on the exterior walls, as well as overhauls of the St. Charles Room and the Senior Commons Room.
During the break, work on the design of the art gallery started up again, director of Co-Curricular Programs Chris Cameron said.
He added that the organization closet area is in the process of demolition. The closets are being torn down for a new student organization area equipped with computers and desks.
He also said the fabric pattern for the Underground has been chosen.
During the few past weeks, the Student Government Association has provided input to the team of professionals who are working on the new design of the building. The SGA has helped the team with modifications and offered suggestions during each individual project.
Cameron said the reason for the delay is that the renovation team has recently changed architectural firms, revising the initial scope of the project.
Two more obstacles are power and food services.
“The Danna Center has x-amount of power and the same amount (of power) needs to be maintained,” Cameron said. Overall, the Danna Center needs to use the same amount of power after the renovations as it did before.
As for food services, the Orleans Room, the C-Store and Smoothie King need to still be available for students while undergoing renovation, Cameron said.
Frost-Barber, an interior design group, is suggesting fabrics and furniture designs for the building, with the final approval coming from the students.
Cameron said the final project is slated for completion by August, adding that Loyola is on track to finish the renovation by that time.
